Welcome to RAPTAR!
R.A.P.T.A.R. stands for Robotics Adventure Professionals
of Tidewater And Richmond.
We are a group of homeschooled students who decided that we wanted to
form a robotics team.
We are continuing to spread our vines to public schools who do not yet
have teams, and hope
to spread the word of FIRST and help them get more teams going!
Our biggest challenge each year is building a robot to compete in the
FIRST Competition.
The robot is not the easiest part of the organization though, because to
enter it into
competition, the robot must perform a certain function, within a certain
timeframe, and must
be built using parts that will be sent to the team by January 10. The
programming and
assembly is done by the team itself.
There is also the chairman's award to work toward. Part of this highly
prestigious award
is a documentary on the building of the robot, and what our team is
doing to spread the
spirit of FIRST. This is what those who have creative skills but no
particular interest
in designing or assembling the robot do for the six weeks that the team
is given to work
on their creation.
Last, but not least, are the adult mentors, people who are willing to
volunteer their
time and experience to help us with our robot. Our team could not
succeed without them.
